..WIDESPREAD SMOKE AND HAZE CONTINUES TODAY ALONG WITH AN ELEVATED RISK FOR FIRE SPREAD…
Today’s satellite continued to show extensive wildfire activity creating more smoke across Ontario and Quebec. With a steady northerly flow around an upper level low pressure system, more smoke will be pushed over our region through the day. This smoke will reduce visibility and create extensive haze. The smoke is is expected to gradually clear by Thursday. According to the EPA and their partners: sensitive groups, including those with heart or lung disease, older adults, children, and pregnant people should consider taking steps to reduce exposure. This includes avoiding strenuous outdoor activities, keeping outdoor activities short and consider moving physical activities indoors or rescheduling them. Go indoors if you have symptoms. Also, dried out fuels coupled with RH values around 30 percent and northwest wind gusts of 15-20 mph may elevate the risk of spread with any fires this afternoon and evening. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
